AI as Environment: Reframing Pedagogic Infrastructure and Student Agency in Design Education
Presented research examining how AI-generated avatar videos can function as pedagogic infrastructure within undergraduate Visual Communication education. Rather than positioning AI as a replacement for teaching, the paper explored avatars as structured interventions supporting student orientation, independent learning and navigation of digital learning environments. Drawing upon research developed through the MA LTHE, the presentation considered how user-centred communication, accessibility and digital design principles can strengthen student agency, belonging and academic support while contributing to emerging discussions around AI in higher education.
